性別がない状態で生まれ、12歳ほどで、それぞれ性分化が起きるという世界。幼馴染のしおりとりつは、すっかり性分化してしまったというのに、ひなせは高校3年生になった今も性別がないままだった。性的欲求というものが一切なく、恋愛に対する理解もあまりないひなせだったが、男性となったしおりと女性となったりつから同じ時期に告白されたのを機に、3人の幼馴染みの関係は変化を見せていく。なお、無性別状態のまま20歳を超えたものはいないとされている（性分化が起こるか死亡するものと思われる）が、年長無性別者の死因は多岐にわたり医学的な解明はされていない。
