主人公、家路久（いえじひさし）はやり手の銀行員であったが、左遷による単身赴任中に起こったアパートの火事（ぼや）による一酸化炭素中毒により記憶喪失となり、離婚・再婚などの過去の記憶を失った。離婚した前妻と娘、仮面を被ったように見えて家族とは思えない今の家族。間で揺れ動く久が自分が帰るべき家とは何か、家族とは何かという疑問を抱えつつ、自分を見つめ直す過程を描く。
