Maria Egi loses her parents while she was still young, but she is supposed to inherit the property from her grandfather when she becomes an adult. But her aunt, Masato Shido steps in and claims to be her guardian, so Maria is forced to live with her and her son, Ichiro, and daughter, Setsuko. On the day Maria's boyfriend Keiichi Ogi, the son of a banker, is coming to propose marriage, Maria stabs her cousin Ichiro when he tries to rape her. She is sent to a juvenile detention center due to the manipulations of Imai, a lawyer who is working for her aunt.
