By 1955, Japan has mostly recovered from the war. However, as more forms of entertainment became available, the popularity of traditional rakugo slumped. Amidst this crisis, a handsome young man, Hananoya Umenojo, burst onto the rakugo scene like a comet. Every day, the performance hall was packed with people there to see him. Umenojo was always treated kindly by the audience and the host, but there was one thing he lacked as a rakugo performer… A boy who continues to perform on stage despite having no talent, and a girl who has talent but cannot get on stage.
