Set in Asagaya, Suginami Ward, Tokyo, this work depicts the life of a young man living in a cheap four-and-a-half-mat apartment. The main character, Yoshio Hori, is modeled after the author, Fukutani, and some of the stories are based on the author's true life story. The story is dirty, unrefined, and erotic, and many readers sympathized with the protagonist's miserable life, who would have a good relationship with a woman but always got dumped in the end.
