現代日本の派遣社員から異世界に転生した青年・ジャンは、最強の冒険者になるため、北の暗黒大陸にあるという「深き不可知の迷宮」（通称・ふかふかダンジョン）に挑む。 同じ作者の『科学的に存在しうるクリーチャー娘の観察日誌』（『クリ娘』）とは同一世界だと作者が明言していたが、登場する亜人種は生物学的に同一特徴を有し、種族文化も似通っているが、『クリ娘』世界では人間と亜人は個々の種族ごとに友好的だったり敵対的だったりしていたのに対して、本作では人間と全亜人連合による殲滅戦争が何世代にもわたって繰り広げられているなど明確な違いも存在する。 オーク・ゴブリン・ドラゴン等、ファンタジー作品では定番ともいえる亜人種・モンスターが登場する一方で、魔法・スキル・奇跡の類は存在せず、化学・物理法則は現実世界と同等であることが徹底されており、亜人種・モンスター達の生態もその原則を逸脱しない範囲で設定されている。
