There are saints living in Tokyo, Japan: Buddha the Enlightened One and Jesus, Son of God. 世紀末を無事に乗り越えたブッダとイエスが有休を取得して下界でのバカンスを満喫しようと、日本の東京都立川の安アパート「松田ハイツ」の一室に居を構え、「聖」（せい）という名字でルームシェアして暮らすという設定で描かれる日常コメディ。立川は、作者・中村光の姉が学生時代を過ごした場所であり、中村本人は何度か遊びに訪れた程度であまり土地勘はない。なお、ブッダとイエスの給料は日本円に換算すると合わせて26万円で、かなりの節約生活を強いられている。 当初はブッダとイエスのみによる会話劇や、立川でできた一般人の知り合いと聖人の常識ギャップによるコメディが主に描かれていたが、途中から天界や魔界の関係者が頻繁に松田ハイツを訪れるようになり、仏教やキリスト教に限定しない様々な宗教的エピソードを基にしたコメディが繰り広げられるようになった。
