Reach the Top of the Comedy World, One Laugh at a Time! Shy Azemichi Shijima has secretly been studying the art of comedy. His outgoing classmate Taiyo Higashikata has big dreams of being funny but no follow-through. When the two team up, they just might take the comedy world by storm! Higashikata ropes Shijima into performing in a comedy duo with him at a school show. Inspired by their guaranteed success, Higashikata asks Shijima to join him in an audacious dream—to rise to the top of Japan’s comedy scene by winning major events in both stand-up and sketch comedy! 文化祭で太陽と組んでコントを披露した畦道はお笑いの楽しさに気づき、太陽の夢を叶えるため、そして自身の過去を乗り越えるため日本一のお笑い芸人を目指すと決意する。しかしその道は前途多難で、畦道は家族から「芸人になること」を反対される。紆余曲折の末に畦道の父から「高校生お笑いバトルで優勝したら芸人になる夢を応援する」と言われ、参加を決意。しかしお笑いバトルには去年の笑-1甲子園ファイナリストの「シュプレヒコール」も出場することがわかった。その大会で受付のバイトをしていた花守茜先輩から、小細工をするよう持ち掛けられるが2人はそれを「実力で勝ちます」と拒否。結果奇想天外なネタを披露した畦道と太陽は、三位になった「シュプレヒコール」に勝利。しかし一位は「ライジン」というコンビだった。畦道と太陽が「優勝できなければコンビ解散」だと知った「ライジン」は優勝を辞退し、一位の座を「なんとか（天頂）片道切符」に譲ることに。屈辱ながら、お笑いを続けられることになり、高校生漫才ナンバーワン決定戦「笑-1甲子園」に出場する。
