人類と魔族との戦争が人類側の勝利で終結した後、ユージン・ドーソンのもとを、母コルデリアの戦友で「剣聖」と称されるリザ・バルサンドラが訪れる。リザは生前のコルデリアから、万一の際にはユージンの面倒を見るよう託されていた。ユージンはリザと同居しながら剣の指導を受けるが、彼女の無防備かつ無自覚な言動にたびたび翻弄される。ある時、リザの好みの異性について話題になり、自分よりも強い男が現れたら結婚したいという発言を聞いたユージンは、彼女を超えることを目標に定める。
